A common question that cosplayers might be asked is "what kinds of characters do you cosplay?"
Now, that's a big, broad, open question that can have many answers. Therefore, I present a big, broad, open answer that I feel embodies why I cosplay and why I pick the characters that I do:
I cosplay characters that I love or characters that inspire me. Sure, every once in a while I might do something small as a joke, or to fill in for a group, but I nonetheless love the series that they come from and have at least somewhat of a connection with the character. But I feel my biggest and best works are on those characters that I really really love and admire. Characters that have fascinated me for years. I don't pick specific character body types, I don't pick based solely on skin color or race, and I definitely don't stick with a common type of personality or role genre. I cosplay villains, heroes, side kicks, antagonists, pop stars, raunchy "angels", dainty fairies, and bad ass guitar players. I suppose if there is any theme at all, it would be "colorful"- I do enjoy colorful cosplays.
The thing I love about cosplay is that I never get bored of it. I don't have to be the same person every time, or look the same every time. I get to do something different and challenge my skills as well as explore artistically. Every cosplay is practice, every failure is a learning experience, and every success feels as fulfilling as the last! It brings me unparalleled happiness and satisfaction to cosplay. No other hobby could ever replace it.
